Designing a self-care day for yourself is an amazing way to relieve some stress and centre yourself when life is really tough. It’s great to implement self-care whenever you can regardless of what your life looks like. Taking care of yourself should be your top priority.
Love Yourself
If you are having difficulties with your self-esteem or you are just flat out exhausted, taking the time to be nice to yourself and have fun is the best thing you can possibly do because:
1) Being kind to yourself increases your self-esteem, and
2) it is unlikely that someone else will do it for you. Or if they do, they will never be able to do it as well as you can for yourself as you know yourself best. Learning to love yourself or be your own best friend is something that takes practice; planning a date for yourself or a whole day of relaxation and luxury is a guaranteed way to make yourself feel better.
If you have a hard time thinking of ways to take care of yourself, think about someone you really care about. What you would like to do for them or with them and do it for yourself instead.
Planning Your Self-Care Day
Plan these days ahead of time so you have something to look forward to. I also do some of these activities when I am in a dark place to make myself feel better. I would suggest you pick ones that get you excited from different categories. This will help you to balance yourself, rather than only having a full on glow up day. For example, If you had a friend who was working out too much, you would probably tell them to rest. Equally, if you had a friend who had been in bed for days with the curtains shut, living off frozen pizza, you would probably invite them to go for a walk with you. You know what to do, be kind to yourself, be your own best friend.
Know the self-care activities I like in advance. I have back up supplies of treats in a box for when I need to practice self-care during a crisis. When I plan ahead, I make sure I have a nice healthy meal, snacks and drinks in the house. I grab myself a face mask, a new candle, new loungewear or a new outfit.
